Friends, members, and supporters, we find ourselves again in 2021 trying to navigate the restrictions placed on events like ours from the State of Washington and the Department of Natural Resources. DNR’s requirements for large recreation events are based on reopening guidance issued by the Governor’s Office. The State of Washington has sent a list of requirements and restrictions that likely will be mandated for us to run our event. We must ensure state mandated COVID-19 protocols are being followed which include contact tracing, PPE utilization, physical distancing, Hygiene, Sanitation, Symptom monitoring, Incident reporting, Location disinfection procedures, COVID-19 safety training and Exposure response procedures and post-exposure incident project-wide recovery plan. In addition to all that, below is a continued list of challenging requirements:
• Pre-registration must occur online. No same-day registration for events is permitted. • Events must have staggered starts allowing participants to begin in smaller waves. • Max start window of 3 hours which will limit number of riders drastically. maximum riders allowed would be lowered to 450 per day. • We also will not be allowed to host camping, operate the kitchen, or have a raffle. • Masks required for riders until they start. • No spectators allowed and after a rider completed the course, he/or she would have to leave the premises. • Not allowed to hold an award ceremony.
At this time, our club leadership must review all of the information to see if we can realistically host the second attempt at the 47th Annual Smuggler Poker Run (scheduled for August 7 & 8 2021). We are currently trying to put together a workable solution to staging a customary (and fun) poker run while observing social distancing (Following state guidance) and protecting the health and safety of riders. We also must also determine if itis cost-efficient with all of the restrictions. As the response to the COVID-19 pandemic continues, changes to pandemic response, including increased restrictions, may result in cancellation or reduction in size of events with little notice. We hope you will understand this difficult situation that we are in and the hard choices we are forced to make for our event.
Thank you for being a part of the Tacoma Trail Cruiser Community.
